A Narrative Inquiry into Canine Behavioral Rehabilitation: A Case Study of Blue Moon and Bill Murray and the Foundation of Helping Paws
Nooka’s Niche: High Anxiety Dog Training for Dogs in Foster & Rescue
This qualitative case study explores the behavioral integration of two littermate rescue dogs—Blue and Bill—into a trauma-informed foster setting under the framework of Positive Psychology. Drawing from narrative inquiry, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation benchmarks, and individualized care assessments, this research details the behavioral distinctions, reactivity triggers, and rehabilitation techniques applied to each dog. Bill’s case required pharmacological intervention to address high anxiety and arousal responses. His tailored behavioral plan advocates placement in a single-pet, mid-to-high engagement home attuned to his need for open play, energetic engagement, and structured leadership. Although his DNA test is pending, preliminary assessments suggest that Bill may be a 50/50 American Bully and Chow Chow mix relevant to his behavioral development and breed-informed care plan. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of canine resilience, interspecies partnership, and adaptive rehoming practices.
