Role of Psychology in Managing Anxiety in Dogs
Tip #1
At Helping Paws, we use Positive Psychology strategies to help high-anxiety dogs, including black dogs, manage their stress and transition smoothly into their forever homes. Here’s how Positive Psychology can make a difference at the start:
Emotional Regulation and Creating a Safe Space
Positive Psychology emphasizes the importance of emotional regulation for both humans and dogs. For high-anxiety dogs, providing a safe space in your home is key. It should be: 1) quiet and comfortable, where the dog can retreat when it needs to calm down. The environment should be predictable, which helps reduce anxiety.
For black dogs facing stigma, the idea of a "safe space" is even more crucial. A calm and supportive environment allows any dog to de-stress, regain confidence, and feel secure, helping to ease the negative impact of the bias they may have encountered.
Each month, we will explore how psychology helps create a happier home.
